Dylan Barker - My bronze arts award journey
Hi my name is Dylan Barker aka RAWD and I have been working on completing my bronze Arts Award at We are Noise. As part of my journey I have created this web page to show all of my work, Dylan.
part A: exploring the arts as a participant
When I first started at We are Noise we discussed what Arts activity I would be best at, and I decided to focus on how to become a rapper/lyricist. After this I created my Arts Award Plan, which I designed to show my journey in learning to become a recording artist.
PART A - EXPLORING THE ARTS: REFLECTION Q&A
Here is my interview outlining my musical journey from start to finish and why I do what I do. I talk about what my influences are and why I got into making music. I hope you enjoy it. Dylan aka RawD.
q - Who are biggest musical influences?
a - Aitch & Central Cee. I like the way they convey a message and I resonate with their style of rapping.
q - Can you describe your earliest music experience?
a - One of my first experiences in music was actually at We Are Noise when we shot a music video on session for my first ever track recorded here.
q - How do you approach song writing?
a - Usually I listen to a beat and get in a zone. I then use my notes on my phone and go with the flow using rap as an outlet to express myself.
q - What is your creative process?
a - If I feel inspired to write something, I usually find a beat that resonates with me. I have to hear the beat first before I can start to write my raps.
q - Describe your genre and sound?
a - UK urban based music with heartfelt lyrics.
q - Do you incorporate your personal experiences in your lyrics?
a - Not always but if the feeling is right then I will express myself with my lyrics.
q - What is the key message of your music?
a - I am telling my story expressing my feelings and experiences within my life.
q - What song are you most proud of?
a - Do not disturb (DND).
q - What advice would you give to other people looking to get into music?
a - Go with your heart and what you believe in and don’t let anyone tell you you can’t do it.
When I came to We Are Noise I had an interest in rap music, which then became something I knew I wanted to pursue.I make music because it helps me deal with my problems. I enjoyed the thrill of making a song on my first visit which led me to want to improve in the artform.
Part C: Musical Inspiration
Aitch - Close To Home Album Cover Art
I’ve chosen to research Aitch for my musical inspiration. For this section of my arts award I decided that doing a podcast style audio interview would be best to express why Aitch is an inspiration in my musical journey.
